Amalfi – Salerno, Italy

Staying in Naples for a week we did a DIY day trip to the Amalfi Coast. Catching the train from Naples we passed Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius on our way to the port city of Salerno. From Salerno we caught the ferry to Amalfi. The ferry was a much better option for us than the long and winding road that the bus services took.

Amalfi town has been around for over 1,000 years but in Italy that makes it a bit of a newbie. It has a small port and broad seafront but disappears up narrow streets overshadowed by steep cliffs. The old town is beautiful. The train and ferry services were awesome. It is a great way to get a taste of the Amalfi Coast and chill out if you have a day to spare on your next trip to Naples.

Steep cliffs dominate the town on both sides.
