Hurunui Hotel – a stay in old New Zealand

Pub, Restaurant and Accommodation

We recommend the Hurunui Hotel. Built in 1868 it is still catering for locals and travellers. We enjoyed a drink and meal downstairs before spending the night in one of the upstairs bedrooms. It was all incredible value for money and the staff were super friendly. This is ‘old school’ hotel accommodation with a comfortable room equipped with hand basin. The toilets and showers are down the hall.

Out the back there is room for campervan and caravans to stop. They don’t charge for unpowered sites.

These country hotels are part of New Zealand’s heritage. They need our patronage to survive. Giving up the ensuite for a night is a small price to pay for experiencing accommodation the way it used to be.

The Hurunui Hotel is located on State Highway 7, in Hurunui, North Canterbury in the South Island of New Zealand.
