Larnach Castle – Otago, New Zealand

A room in the Lodge Accommodation adjoining Larnach’s Castle

Located on the ridge of the Otago Peninsula, Larnach Castle is a mansion house built on land purchased in 1870 by William Larnach a prominent politician and businessman. Construction was completed in 1874 and the house was dubbed ‘Larnach’s Castle’ by the local newspaper. Today the house and grounds are open to the public and there is excellent accommodation that takes in unbeatable views of Otago Harbour. To get the best from your visit I recommend staying onsite and enjoy the after hours atmosphere when the day visitors have gone. The evening meal we had was first rate, as was the breakfast the following morning.

The grounds alone are worth the visit and the house has been beautifully restored.
