Premier League Preview 2023/24: Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur

Has anyone seen Harry?

Spurs have been an underperforming club for too long now if you ask their loyal supporters. You get the feeling the fans are waiting for this club to fall over every season now, for their chance to say ‘I told you so’ about lack of squad investment, questionable managerial appointments, and a divisive Chairman. Club legend Harry Kane has moved on with a £86m move to German giants Bayern Munich. Kane’s deputy up front Son Heung-min seems just as unsettled after a terrible 2022/23 season, and if you add in Richarlison’s debut season where he didn’t score a single league goal, you end up with the clunky and disruptive season that they had. Their squad investment for the new season has been James Maddison (£40m) from relegated Leicester City, Pedro Porro (£35m) a young right-back from Sporting Lisbon, and permanently signed Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus after his season long loan at Spurs last season. Lack of goals has been a problem for Spurs in recent years and they will need the forwards left on their roster to fire if they are a chance of making Europe this season. A new manager, Ange Postecoglou, had a good time at Celtic but he goes into the season as a premier league rookie and will be under pressure from day one. A few early bad results and he might find the Spurs faithful turn on him very quickly. Tottenham Hotspur as a club have been simmering away for a few years and seem to be getting close to boiling point. How long can they go before that happens. A tough year for all involved could be ahead.
