Waitonga Falls – Tongaririo, New Zealand

The 39 metre high Waitonga Falls is the highest waterfall in the Tongariro National Park. The Waitonga Falls Walkway carpark is adjacent to the Turoa Ski field road.

The track to the falls is well formed. It is an easy to moderate level of difficulty and the 4km return walk that takes around 90 minutes all up.

In the open tussock area at the top of the walkway there is an excellent boardwalk and good views of Mount Ruapehu on a clear day. Most of the track is through mature forest beech forest.
